Why, What & How We Grow

We cherish our land and community by offering a bounty of Maine’s best throughout the year. With sustainable practices like crop rotation, soil management, interseeding, and cover cropping, we aim to ensure that our fields will provide nutritious food to feed our neighbors for generations to come.

Farm Partners

Growing Maine Agriculture

Ensuring sustainability and local economy through farm partnerships.

Maine’s agricultural economy is the cornerstone of our work. We partner with over 15 Maine farms and distributors to bring the breadth and depth of products that Maine has to offer to our customers, creating additional markets for our partners.

A Farm in Transition

End Hunger

It takes many partners to ensure that all Mainers have access to good, healthy food. One of our core beliefs is to support local and federal hunger programs.

For over 40 years, we have partnered with Good Shepherd Food Bank and local pantries to bring fresh, local produce to our neighbors who may not otherwise have access to these products.

Penny Jordan, one of the owners of the farm, was part of the team that created the strategy for the program Ending Hunger in Maine by 2030, and the Jordan family is heavily involved in local, state, and federal policy as it relates to food access.

A Family Tradition

5 Generations & Counting

A blooming family legacy rooted in the soil of Wells Road since 1948.

Jordan’s Farm, nurtured by generations of our family, continues to flourish and spread its roots into the hearts of those we feed.

Jordan’s Farm Through the Years

William H. Jordan, Sr. was one of nine children raised by Roy and Ivy Jordan. Explore the story of Bill Sr., known for his iceberg lettuce and cabbage, and see how he and Bill Jr. expanded our farming legacy to Gray.

1948

In 1948, “Billy” started operating the farm himself and growing it into a burgeoning wholesale business supplying the Boston Market. He and his wife Ruth (Young) also started their family—raising four children—Bill Jr., Pam, Carol Anne, and Penny.

1970

In the 1970’s California started supplying the Boston market with produce and Billy began working more closely with local distributors. The family also began a small pick-your-own strawberry operation. Since the early 1970s, Bill Jr. had been working alongside his father on the farm, while his sisters, Penny, Carol Anne, and Pam attended college and sought other careers.

1980

In the 1980s, as U.S. West Coast vegetable wholesale businesses became increasingly national and even international, the Jordans started growing a greater variety of vegetables for local stores and distributors. During this time they became especially well known for their sweet corn.

1993

In 1993 Bill, Jr. opened a small self-service farm stand on Wells Road. With the help of the community it has evolved into what you see today! Although the farm has become especially well known for its strawberries and corn, people who drop by the stand are amazed to find an ever-expanding variety of vegetables and flowers.

2000

In 2000 the sisters all returned to the farm and there was a significant family farm update: a larger farm stand was built to allow the Jordans to bring a wider variety of the freshest vegetables possible. Although their produce offerings grew, one thing would never change – their commitment to bringing you only the freshest possible vegetables grown here in Cape Elizabeth and throughout Maine. Additionally, to ensure this farm would exist in perpetuity, the family put an agricultural easement on the property.
